CASE STUDIES
An example of how Art can help anxious children and young people
Whilst teaching children and young people suffering with anxiety, we often incorporate an art work task as it proves to be engaging, therapeutic and beneficial to the individual. For example, a Year 9 student drew a face that had one side of the face covered with a mask and the other side of the face exposed. When we discussed the meaning of the picture the student had drawn, she was able to explain how she felt in her life having to “wear a mask” and hide the way she truly felt. She explained that her anxiety made her feel like she had two sides which were often unpredictable and which she sometimes tried to hide from other people.
An example of English Persuasive Writing
We investigated the use of Persuasive Writing within a variety of chocolate adverts. Students were encouraged to focus on AFOREST - an acronym that contains all of the language techniques and rhetorical devices that make persuasive writing powerful and memorable.

Maths Ratio and Proportion
We looked at Ratio and Proportion during our Stride Maths lesson today. We defined both mathematical terms and investigated the differences between them. We also worked on writing ratios in their simplest form.

Creative Therapies: Block Printing and Stop Start Animation
We explored block printing on fabric to help calm anxious minds.
We explored stop-start animation, which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
